Okay, so my mom decided to come up with idea to switch to AT&T (Obviously to save some cash money...) but it's just terrible. We get 3mb down 768k up compared to 15mb down 2mb up. The main problem I'm having is when I'm playing my L4D2 while my mom is watching Netflix Stream on the Xbox 360. Pings are fine until she hops on.... and pops up my ping at a constant 400ms+ Is it the down speed thats effecting this? They also have a 6mb down..... would that help at all.... My mom is constantly watching retarded NETFLIX even though she's not watching it she just like to have it on. Eh... I miss my overpriced charter... sniff* sniff*

the netflix streaming is going to kill you even if you go with the 6mb package. I've got att and it's fine for me, but we don't stream netflix while trying to game.

Uploading kills your ping more than downloading, so my guess is the limited bandwidth on both ends. But what router and modem do you have? I recently upgraded my modem and router to the Netgear DGND3300 and man it has made a hell of a difference with my sister constantly streaming shows, videos, etc. My ping has dropped and now my choke is almost non existent. My Intel PT/1000 Pro helps out a bit too.
A good router with DD-WRT will make a significant improvement on your connection. The ASUS RT-N16 is a pretty powerful router. You can also setup QoS on your router if you haven't done so. How much are you paying for 3mb? If you call up AT&T they can lower the price of 6mb. I pay $17.50 a month for 6mb. |

I got a crappy 2wire wireless modem/router... not sure what I am paying but I'll have to talk to my mom.
I was hoping they would just get a modem... not a modem and router put together. We already have a 610N Linksys by Cisco... But they ruined that by getting that 2wire thing. Last edited by Camper : 03-09-2010 at 05:08 PM. |
